Whakauru

Give what you can. Help build what comes next.

There are many ways to stand alongside this kaupapa. Some people bring professional knowledge. Some organisations have equipment or resources they no longer need. Others can open doors, make connections or help complete a clearly defined piece of mahi.

You do not need to become a trustee, join our operational team or make an ongoing commitment to contribute. Our role is to make those opportunities visible, well scoped and worthwhile.

Give Your Professional Skills

Use what you know to strengthen the kaupapa

Across our whānau and wider community are people with deep professional capability, practical experience and specialist knowledge. You might align with the overall purpose of Tangatake, connect strongly with one or more of our five pou, or simply see a project where your experience could make a meaningful difference.

Professional give-back allows you to contribute to a specific piece of work without becoming a trustee, staff member or long-term operational volunteer. The contribution might take a few hours, several sessions or a short project completed over an agreed period.

Professional give-back could include

  • Reviewing a policy, framework or governance document.
  • Updating a standard operating procedure.
  • Helping us strengthen health and safety, privacy or risk processes.
  • Developing a template, toolkit or practical resource.
  • Creating a foundational “Project 101” learning module.
  • Reviewing programme content through a specialist lens.
  • Supporting financial modelling, budgeting or reporting.
  • Improving digital systems, data management or cybersecurity.
  • Helping with communications, design, storytelling or fundraising.
  • Advising on evaluation, outcomes and impact measurement.
  • Providing legal, human resources or organisational development expertise.
  • Mentoring someone completing a defined piece of mahi.

Professional give-back can support any part of Tangatake and may connect with one or several of our pou:

Mahi

Employment, education and vocational pathways.

Rangatahi

Youth development and whānau support.

Taiao

Safety, practical capability and connection to place.

Rangatira

Leadership, mentoring and personal development.

Matihiko

Digital, creative and future-focused capability.

Projects, not vague requests

We want every volunteer contribution to be clear, respectful and achievable.

Wherever possible, opportunities will be presented as defined projects with:

  • A clear outcome.
  • The skills or experience needed.
  • An estimated time commitment.
  • A named Tangatake contact.
  • Relevant background information and existing materials.
  • Agreed timeframes and ways of working.
  • Clarity about confidentiality, ownership and how the work will be used.

We will not ask someone to “help with everything” or leave them carrying an open-ended responsibility.

In-kind professional support can help us progress valuable work that might otherwise need to wait. It should not, however, replace employment where a sustained operational role is required.

Reciprocity matters. We will acknowledge the contribution, report back on what it helped make possible and, where appropriate, provide a reference or record of service.

Tell us what you could contribute

There may not be an open project that matches your experience today. Registering your interest allows us to contact you when a suitable piece of mahi is ready.

Registering does not create an obligation. We will always kōrero with you about the project, scope and timing before anything is agreed.

Give Equipment and Resources

Turn useful surplus into practical support

Cost should not prevent someone from learning, participating or moving forward. Businesses, agencies and individuals often hold quality equipment that is no longer being used but still has significant life left in it. Tangatake can help connect those resources with whānau and programme delivery where they can remove a real barrier.

Think of it as a community needs board: instead of listing items for sale, we list the resources our kaupapa and whānau currently need.

Resources we may seek include

  • Refurbished laptops and desktop computers.
  • Computer monitors and docking stations.
  • Keyboards, mice, webcams and headsets.
  • Refurbished mobile phones.
  • Tablets and other learning devices.
  • Chargers, cables and power adapters.
  • Mobile data or internet connectivity support.
  • Software licences and digital subscriptions.
  • Office, workshop or programme equipment.
  • Printing, signage and creative production services.
  • Transport, venue or storage support.
  • Safety equipment connected with programme delivery.

Our needs will change as programmes develop. The live needs board will identify what is currently required, how many items are needed and the purpose they will support.

What we can accept

We want donated goods to remove barriers rather than create new ones. Items should be safe, functional and appropriate for their intended use. For digital devices, we may specify minimum age, operating system, battery health or technical requirements.

All phones, computers and storage devices must be securely data-wiped before they are transferred. Where appropriate, equipment should include working chargers and be factory-reset or professionally refurbished.

Tangatake may decline items that are unsafe, damaged, unsupported, excessively costly to repair or not currently needed. When you contact us, we will confirm whether we can accept the goods and arrange the next step.

Clear records. Clear destination.

Accountability follows every contribution.

For corporate, government and organisational donors, we understand the importance of knowing where contributed goods have gone. Tangatake will maintain an appropriate record of accepted resources, which may include:

  • The contributing organisation.
  • A description and quantity of the goods received.
  • Serial or asset numbers where appropriate.
  • The condition of the goods.
  • The programme or purpose they were allocated to.
  • The date they were distributed or placed into use.
  • Confirmation that the goods were received.
  • Any agreed reporting or reconciliation information.

Personal information about recipients will be protected. Reporting will focus on responsible allocation, intended use and the barriers the contribution helped remove.

Where individual recipient information is required, this will only be managed through an agreed process that respects privacy, consent and data sovereignty.

For Businesses and Government Agencies

Give surplus equipment a purposeful next life

Replacing equipment across a workplace can create a large volume of surplus assets. We welcome conversations with organisations that can provide batches of quality devices, technology, furniture or other useful resources.

We can work with your team to agree:

  • What Tangatake can responsibly accept.
  • Minimum quality and technical standards.
  • Data-wiping and security requirements.
  • Collection or delivery arrangements.
  • Asset transfer documentation.
  • Allocation and reconciliation reporting.
  • Opportunities for your people to provide professional skills alongside the equipment.

This turns an asset-disposal decision into practical community impact, supported by a clear process and audit trail.

Not sure where you fit?

You do not need to arrive with a finished offer. Tell us what you know, what you have access to or what kind of contribution you are considering. We can explore whether there is a useful and appropriate connection.

The right contribution is not always the biggest one. Sometimes it is the right person reviewing one document, solving one problem or providing one piece of equipment at the moment it is needed.
