Matihiko

Our whānau should help shape the digital future

Matihiko is both an access pou and a creation pou. It helps people participate in the digital world while also developing the confidence and capability to create, influence and lead within it.

Why this pou matters

Digital confidence is shaped by access and opportunity. Some whānau have had fewer chances to use new tools in supported environments. This pou helps close that opportunity gap while recognising the creativity, knowledge and problem-solving capability people already hold.

Starting with strong foundations

Matihiko begins with the digital foundations people need to participate confidently and safely: using devices and online services, email and online forms, digital communication, online safety and privacy, and the digital tools that employment and learning now rely on. From there, participants can build creative capability, explore AI and develop skills that support learning, employment, enterprise and self-expression.

AI as a tool, not an authority

AI literacy sits alongside human judgement, creativity, cultural context and critical thinking. Participants learn what these tools can do, where they fall short, how to protect privacy and safety, and how to use AI as a tool rather than an unquestioned authority.

Accessible by design

Delivery will use accessible technology, flexible processes and different ways of participating so that people are not left behind because of access, confidence, communication needs or previous digital experience.

Built with partners

Delivery will draw on capability within Tangatake as well as the expertise, technology and networks of aligned creative, education and industry partners.

What will make it possible

Access to venues and equipment, facilitator time, and delivery partners.
