Why this pou matters
Our region is water and bush. Our people spend time in both, often without access to the training that can keep them and others safe.
This is practical, high-stakes mahi. It also creates something deeper: taiao-based learning places people in relationship with whenua and wai, where identity, responsibility and confidence can grow naturally.
What we are building
- Water safety and bush safety training.
- Outdoor and taiao-based learning.
- Health, wellbeing and emergency-readiness capability.
- Community-level capability so knowledge remains with whānau and communities after a course ends.
Delivered alongside specialist partners
Learning is developed and delivered alongside specialist partners with the technical expertise, cultural knowledge and community relationships required for safe and meaningful delivery.
Those partners bring more than a workshop: experienced facilitators, recognised training and qualifications, equipment, community and industry networks, future learning opportunities, and connections into employment, volunteering and ongoing mentoring.
Skills that travel through whānau
The value of these skills extends beyond the individual. Participants can share what they learn with friends, whānau and community, helping strengthen prevention and safer decision-making around them.
